Greiner Packaging, Dungannon

Working in partnership with Kaufmann Bausysteme, this project was for the extension of the existing plastics factoring for Greiner Packaging International, who numbers amongst the leading European packaging producers. They are an internationally active company that has an efficient network of facilities across all regions of Europe, including Dungannon, Northern Ireland.

The works comprised the construction of a 21.7m high pallet store of size 84.7m x 14m, a 30.3m and 5.8m transfer area, a 47.1m x 13.6m dispatch area and a 55m long link corridor to connect the new building to the existing factory. The pallet store is 21.7m high, comprised of a timber glulam stanchion and beam structure which is bolted to a concrete floor base.

Constructed on an existing site in a live operational environment, Greiner Packaging, their staff and employees went about their normal day-to-day activities during the construction of this new facility. This presented many challenges, particularly in terms of H&S, traffic management, deliveries and minimising disruption to the existing operations, whilst at the same time delivering a very complex building on time, on budget and with zero defects.

The works were meticulously planned and programmed to take cognisance of Greiner Packaging’s existing operations – it was business as usual for Greiner Packaging.

Our dedicated M&E Co-ordinator was responsible for integrating the Mechanical & Electrical Contractors into the construction process, and at an early stage, a robust testing and commissioning programme was developed to ensure the building was handed over on time.

What impressed me most about Woodvale Construction Company on this project was their willingness and ability to help out both sub contractors and factory personnel in order to achieve the end goal with a minimum of fuss or bother. This was a great benefit to the success of this particular project.
