First Derry & Claremont Presbyterian Churches

The grade B+ listed First Derry Church had been lying derelict and unused for nine years when Woodvale first came to the site, the significant restoration project commenced with the treatment of extensive dry rot by the removal and reinstating of roof trusses, roof coverings and flashings.

Key Features:

  • Heritage skills craftsman undertook stonework repair and re-pointing
  • Traditional timber truss techniques employed to restore feature trusses
  • Full Mechanical & Electrical strip out and subsequent new M&E installation 
  • A heat recovery system and modern energy efficient heating system were installed to achieve excellent energy efficiency
  • High specification insulation was installed in the roof space. Low energy lighting was also installed
  • Natural sustainable lime mortar was used throughout
  • Concealed access panels have been provided for the maintenance of the heating and ventilation systems. Light fittings can be lowered to ground level to replace bulbs
  • Associated siteworks, paving, railings and ironwork

The project has been award two Restoration Awards:

  • 2012 CEF First Derry Restoration Winner
  • 2013 RICS NI First Derry Presbyterian Church Restoration
