Donard Special School
The works included five extensions in four construction phases to the main school. The new construction was sensitive to the existing buildings in the site, with a traditional cavity wall construction finished with red brick to match existing complete with a hipped concrete tiled roof.
The work included a Post 16 classroom with kitchen, disabled toilets and new storage rooms. A classroom was refurbished and a library and ICT room provided. The enlarged dining area and a new quiet dining bay better met the needs of the students, with a relocated Staff room, a new meeting room and refurbished toilets for the staff. Demolition of the existing hygiene room allowed access to 2 new Primary Classrooms with new toilets, stores, changing room and ASD room.
Associated external works included paving, fencing, mobile classroom relocation, playground, covered area and fuel tank compounds.
The school was operational during the contract and therefore it was of utmost importance that noise and disruption were kept to a minimum throughout construction.
