Belvoir Youth Centre
This contemporary Youth Centre was built adjacent the operational Belvoir Primary School. The building is formed around a central courtyard. It features a glazed colonnade overlooking the external sports ‘amphitheatre’ with raised boundary seating. Materials include glulam timber beams, exposed internal brickwork, birch ply cladding and extensive use of glass.
Accommodation includes: Teaching spaces, computer rooms, kitchen and dining space, group room, social space, a large multipurpose hall with stage and A/V facilities, Reception, offices and toilets.
Key Features:
- BREEAM Very Good rating
- The split level nature of the site entailed a large retaining wall to deal with the difference in levels. The retaining wall was tanked using a Self-adhesive HDPE waterproofing membrane
- Glulam timber and plywood ceilings were installed and protected to prevent weather damage
- The adjacent Primary School was occupied throughout the duration of the Contract. Due to stringent Health and Safety controls no accidents or incidents occurred during construction
- A 110,000 volt overhead power cable crossed the site. We liaised with NIE and agreed the site restrictions necessary to enable safe working under the power lines
