Arvalee School and Resource Centre

Arvalee Special School caters for children aged 3 to 19 years with moderate and severe learning difficulties. The single-storey, purpose built school is made up of four distinct pods which house specialist facilities including sensory therapy rooms and courtyards, hygiene and hoisting facilities, and specialist teaching areas for art, technology, design and home economics.

The new school provides cutting edge facilities for its 140 Pupils including a media suite, 3D art and ceramics studios. External facilities include a multi-use games area. Siteworks included asphalt roadways, lay-bys, footways, landscaping works with paths, floodlighting, MUGA pitch, hard and soft play areas, fencing, covered walkways and extensive car parking.

This project was delivered to BREEAM excellent including the creation of a woodland walkway with the students. Woodwork workshops took place with year 11 and 12 pupils who worked alongside Woodvale joiners to build bird houses, wind chimes, tree stump seats and a bug hotel. The team planted bulbs and transplanted a willow walkway from the old school site to bring an element of familiarity to the new grounds. We have published the BREEAM information as a case study as part of the MAN09 credit, if you want to receive a copy of this case study, please email info@woodvaleconstruction.co.uk.

Works commenced with a significant earthmoving cut and fill operation to reduce the site to the correct level. This project was finished on time & budget with no Health & Safety incidents.
